Coronavirus Outbreak Affects Nintendo Switch, Joy-Cons, And More In Japan

Following an interview with the Japanese press, Nintendo has officially confirmed that the Coronavirus outbreak in China will impact shipments of its Nintendo Switch console and other products to Japan.

In a statement on its Japanese website, Nintendo announced that production and shipment delays are expected for Nintendo Switch, its Joy-Con controllers, other accessories, and the Ring Fit Adventure game, which is currently already facing stock shortages in Japan.

Additionally, Nintendo has postponed pre-orders for its upcoming Animal Crossing-themed Nintendo Switch. A new date for pre-orders going live has not been determined yet.

Nintendo’s statement is specifically for its domestic Japanese market, for which products are manufactured in China. It has not yet announced if Nintendo Switch shipments will be impacted in countries other than Japan.

The Coronavirus is a family of viruses that can cause illnesses ranging from a common cold to more severe diseases. It is a respiratory virus whose impact has been felt largely in China, where the most number of people infected has been reported. More can be learnt about the Coronavirus on the WHO website.
