As with all great life sims, Coral Island allows you to romance its characters. The game offers a huge number of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes, so whoever catches your interest, this guide will help you win them over and start a family with them.
Romance in Coral Island requires you to complete a series of steps that eventually lead to marriage and children. The first step is to simply get to know your neighbors, which involves talking to them and giving them gifts. Every time you increase their heart level, indicated next to their character portrait in the NPC menu, this can trigger a Heart Event under the right conditions.
Once you’ve gotten your prospective partner up to eight hearts and viewed all their heart events, there are some specific steps you’ll need to take to move the relationship forward.

How to view Heart Events with romance options in Coral Island
Heart Events are special events that occur with each resident in Coral Island, for both friendships and romantic interests. As you increase your heart rating with each resident, heading to the right part of town can trigger special scenes to play out.
Heart Events don’t trigger on every level, but usually pop up at least on level 2, 5 and 8, along with a few others that vary from person to person. Most Heart Events will trigger at the NPC’s house or place of work, although a few can be found in the town square, beach or the Fishensips tavern. They also don’t require the NPC to be in that specific spot to trigger, as the game will spawn them in anyway.
Some Heart Events will only trigger on certain days of the week or during certain weather conditions. If you’re not getting events with a particular NPC, try a different day, different time or wait for the weather to change.
How to date and marry characters in Coral Island
Like many games of its type, romance in Coral Island can lead to marriage with its characters. In order to achieve this with your chosen partner, you need to complete four specific steps.
The first step, of course, is to maximize their heart level. For romantic interests, this requires you to get them to eight hearts first. This leads directly to the second step, as you’ll receive a letter from Pablo as soon as you reach this level with one person. This unlocks the ability to buy a Locket from the blacksmith. Handing this to your desired partner unlocks the ability to reach their final two heart levels. There is no limit to how many NPCs you can give a locket to at once.
The next step is to upgrade your house. You’ll need the maximum house upgrade, which adds a second level to your home, providing the room to start a family. You’ll need 200 Wood, 150 Stone, 10 Silver Bars and 40,000 Coins to do this.
The final step is to get your desired partner to 10 hearts and another new item will become available at the blacksmith: the Diamond Ring. Pick one of these up for 5,000 Coins and you’ll now be able to propose to your partner by gifting it to them once you’ve viewed all their Heart Events.
Coral Island is out now for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
