An official statement detailed the reasoning for the delay and the plans regarding the new dates. Additionally, COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines will be put in place and followed regarding the amount of visitors that can attend the event. While the limitation of attendees was one of the primary reasons Comiket 99 was postponed, the event runners will comply with mandates in order for the event to run in December 2021.

The statement mentions that the event holders plan on accepting as many attendees as possible as long as they do not violate the regulations that are currently in place. The statement also mentions that the progression of the COVID-19 vaccine’s availability contributed to the decision to move forward with the event. However, the statement does say that the postponement of Comiket 99 could happen again if the situation surrounding COVID-19 worsens.
