This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

People excited about the next Comic Market might not have to worry about the event. An update has been provided on its official Facebook page noting that, for the moment, things are going as planned even amid concerns about COVID-19. Some doujin circles have already gotten acceptance letters and it seems like Comiket 98 could still be held in May 2020. However, the organizers also cautioned people that it is paying attention to government advisories and may need to cancel or delay the event due to the coronavirus.

Prospect on Comic Market 98 (as of March 15, 2020)

We have sent out notifications to participating circles (amateur publishing groups) about their acceptance to Comic Market 98. Currently we are preparing to have Comic Market 98 (May 2-5, 2020) as planned.

However, due to the concerns regarding the COVID-19 outbreak, and the government requests for refraining from holding large-scale events issued on February 26 and March 10, and other similar requests or orders that may be issued, there is a possibility that Comic Market 98 may be canceled, postponed or held in a irregular manner.

Comic Market defines itself as a "space" that functions to expand the possibilities of self expression, where the aim is to accept creators of doujinshi and all other types of creative endeavors and maintain continuity. We will continue with our best efforts towards holding Comic Market 98. Your cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated.

The situation surrounding COVID-19 is unstable and fluid. Any developments will be addressed here. Please check back here for any updates.

Comiket is a large doujin event, with people showing off magazines and games, and it will be held May 2-5, 2020 at Tokyo Big Sight in Tokyo, Japan. About 200,000 attendees are expected to show up each day, according to the official site.
