In a recent interview, Disaster Report and City Shrouded in Shadow director Kazuma Kujo, and producer Kensuke Tsukanaka answered a question about why certain series were featured in the game. [Thanks, Sanspo.]

Sanspo: While you included the Godzilla and Gamera series which appeals to a wide range of ages, you also included Patlabor which appeals to a different age group. It’s a very unique set of choices.”

Kensuke Tsukanaka, Producer: “In terms of marketing, whether a game should focus on including certain series is variable; but with City Shrouded in Shadow we chose the series based on wanting to recreate certain scenes in certain series in the game… Evangelion is another series that comes from an anime, but in the show there was a scene where bullet cases fall to the ground after being shot from a gatling gun, which we wanted people to experience through the game.”

Kazuma Kujo, Director: “We were imagining what would happen if you were running under the monster or machine in those scenes.”

Tsukanaka: “That’s right. Of course, we are not recreating the scenes down to the finest details, but rather we wanted to take inspiration from those situations to create interactive sequences that can only be expressed in a video game.”

City Shrouded in Shadow will be released on October 19, 2017 in Japan for PlayStation 4.
