Circle Entertainment, a China-based indie videogame developer, has published numerous titles onto the Nintendo 3DS eShop, and the company’s CEO Chris Chao has recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming Nintendo Switch in an interview with Nintendo Life.
When asked if Chao hoped Circle Entertainment would be active on the eventual Switch eShop, he said that, while they are now remaining focused on 3DS, Steam and PlayStation, they had applied for a Switch license to which Nintendo requested patience from them. Chao also expressed his worry for the Switch, noting that, though the system will easily port Unity and Unreal, he fears that the multitude of games that could be released will hinder the actual quality of the titles.
Here is Chao’s full commentary on the Switch:
“Right now we are focusing on 3DS, Steam and PlayStation (probably VR); we tried to apply for a Switch license and Nintendo wants us to be patient. Personally I am a little bit worried about Switch (not the hardware), but I’m still willing to work on the platform.
If you want to know my worries, I have to say that if this platform can easily port the likes of Unity and Unreal, for gamers that’s cool to see so many titles come out, but how can we make sure game quality will stay at a high level? Maybe some indies will port 5-10 titles in 2 months; it’ll be hard for small developers to survive on the platform with such huge competition.”
