Rumour: Is This Castlevania Director Koji Igarashi’s New Project?

Recommended Videos

During the Penny Arcade Expo last year, attendees at the Mighty No. 9 panel were handed a mysterious flyer (thanks, IGN) that was speculated to hint at a new game by Castlevania director Koji Igarashi. At the time, Igarashi had recently left Konami to pursue other projects and this mystery title was assumed to be among them.

Additionally, decrypting the runic alphabets around the pentagram revealed a message that stated: “What a wonderful night to have a KS,” which fueled speculation that the game, whatever it was, would be funded through Kickstarter, and that Igarashi was gearing up to launch a crowdfunding campaign sometime in the near future.

Now, months later, this project—or at least it looks to be the same project—has reared its head again. Nicalis’ Tyrone Rodriguez recently posted a tweet that included a link to swordorwhip.com, and clicking through takes one to a homepage that looks like this:

Given the obvious hints (the sprite that looks suspiciously like Igarashi and the #igavania hashtag), it appears safe to assume that there is something along the lines of a Castlevania-esque project in the works… provided the site in question is legitimate, and not some elaborate prank.

That said, the flyer handed out at PAX last year provides one with enough reason to give this situation the benefit of the doubt, and it should be interesting to see if and when Igarashi’s new project will come to light. We’re also curious to see which developer Igarashi is working with—at this point, there are plenty of eligible candidates.
