Castle In The Darkness Is A Retro Game Throwback With Cute Pixels, Huge Swords

You might not know Matt Kap by name but you may be familiar with his work. Most recently, he was the lead artist on The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Now, he’s released his own solo project, Castle In The Darkness, on Steam for Windows.

By and large, it’s a throwback to the retro action platformers that Kap played as a kid, such as Castlevania and the Metroid series. Hence, it’s an exploratory action platformer with some RPG elements thrown in for good measure.

You play as a knight who awakens from being knocked unconscious to find that an evil sorcerer has stolen the princess and the kingdom of Alexandria overrun by monsters.

You’ll start off with basic armor and a sword, but will earn coins so that you can purchase from the selection of over 100 other weapons (including bigger swords!), armor, items, and magic to use.

You’ll need it all, too. Castle In The Darkness has over 100 different enemies for you to take on, swinging your sword to the sounds of its pixel tune soundtrack. Oh, and there are 50 large boss enemies to conquer as well.

You can purchase Castle In The Darkness for $5.99 on Steam. Check out its website for more information.
