Here’s something we missed during the Tokyo Game Show rush: Asura’s Wrath, in development at CyberConnect 2 — known for their Naruto and .hack titles — is being developed using Unreal Engine 3.

The first high-profile game to make use of Epic’s Unreal Engine technology was The Last Remnant, developed at Square Enix. While that project went through its share of ups and downs, Epic now have a Japanese office set up, dedicated entirely to providing support to their Japanese clients using the tech.

The company held a development support conference this past April, which was attended by Goichi Suda, representing the game we now know as Shadows of the DAMNED, which also uses Unreal 3.

“At CyberConnect2, we have our own development process and know-how gained from years of development. But this time we decided to reconsider our process to achieve higher quality and efficiency,” said Seiji Shimoda, game director of CyberConnect2.

“We tried a lot of different options and determined that Unreal Engine 3 was a perfect solution. Our developers were able to review the game in real time, and they continue to be productive throughout the process. I know we will deliver something amazing to the gaming world, and along the way, we will provide a showcase that will help show Japanese developers how to master the powerful functionality built into Unreal,” he concluded.
