Who is Dias in Star Ocean The Second Story R?

First, let’s set the scene. Dias is a childhood friend of one of the possible protagonists of Star Ocean The Second Story R, Rena. If you chose Rena, he joins temporarily assists you earlier in the game and becomes someone you can recruit later on. Regardless of your choice though, he seems to have a desire to battle with Claude. Swordsman stuff, you know how it is.

Dias and Claude get this chance during the Lacuer Armory Contest. Dias is the final opponent Claude faces. He is exceptionally powerful.

Can I beat Dias in the tournament in Star Ocean: The Second Story R?

To be blunt, you cannot defeat Dias here no matter how much preparation you do. His win is part of the plot, and Star Ocean: The Second Story R leaves no room for debate. Your attacks just bounce off him and his attacks are basically one-hit kills. Even being insanely overpowered won’t change Claude’s fate. He’s toast.

Apparently, it was technically possible to win in the original game, though it was absolutely not intended and seemed to either break the game, get ignored completely, or just loop until you lost. I wouldn’t know, because I never even came close. Either way, he’s certainly not going down in Star Ocean: The Second Story R.

By the way, if you want Dias on your roster you need to pick Rena as the starting protagonist. Sorry to disappoint Claude fans, but those childhood friendships run deep.

Star Ocean The Second Story R is out now on the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.
