If there is one thing that the Diablo series has become known for in recent years, it’s portability. Diablo II and III alike are available on the Nintendo Switch, while Immortal gives mobile players a spin-off entry. But Diablo IV isn’t available on either of those platforms, so is it possible to play it on the Steam Deck?

Thankfully, it is very much possible to play Diablo IV on one. In fact, that is exactly how I’ve been playing the game myself. The best part is that you don’t even need to install Microsoft Windows to make it happen. You are fully able to play the game on the portable PC platform without going through too many hoops.

How to play Diablo IV on a Steam Deck

If you want to join the excellent club of us who play this beloved online hack-and-slash game on Steam Deck, there are a few steps you need to do before you can play Diablo IV portably. First and foremost, switch your Deck to the Desktop Mode and open up the apps store.

There, you want to search for Lutris, install it, and then add it to your Steam Library. When you boot up Lutris, select the option for Battle.net. (There are also options for the Epic Games Store, GOG, and so on.) Log into your account or make a fresh one.

At this point, you should be able to see the Battle.net platform. What you should do now is buy and/or install Diablo IV here. Once the game is done downloading, you can open up and play the game. The best part is it should automatically detect your Steam Deck’s controls and allow you to play using the built-in thumbsticks and buttons.

Playing this way isn’t going to be the most optimal way, so you may have to play around with the settings. Make sure to adjust the graphical quality, resolution, and the like so the game runs smoothly for you on here.

Diablo IV is available for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
