A Bubble Bobble 4 Friends port has been announced, and it will usher in a “definitive edition” age for the action game. By the time 2020 ends, a Bubble Bobble 4 Friends PS4 version will appear worldwide. It will be available digitally and physically. It will also include a number of extra features that will also eventually be added to the immediately-available Nintendo Switch version.
Taito revealed three new features that will be present in Bubble Bobble 4 Friends PS4, then also eventually the Switch release. Baron von Blubba, the ghostly opponent that will appear if you spend too long on a stage, will reappear. More stages will be added. Also, there will be additional modes available. However, the official website and announcement trailer don’t note if online multiplayer will be added.

Bubble Bobble 4 Friends is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch. It will make its PlayStation 4 debut in Winter 2020. The game is a multiplayer-focused version of Bubble Bobble, where up to four people can locally gather together to try and find their way through stages. Unfortunately, at least in North America, it launched right as the pandemic started to take hold worldwide.
