2K Games and Gearbox announced that Borderlands 4 is in development at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. It’s set for release in 2025, and will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Borderlands 4 was revealed in a teaser trailer that opened the show. The trailer featured a mysterious planet that opens a rift and causes meteors to fall to a planet. When a mysterious figure with a robotic arm investigates the wreckage, they find an iconic Psycho mask, revealing the franchise.
The announcement comes immediately after the release of the Borderlands movie to theaters worldwide. However, it has suffered from negative reviews and poor ticket sales. The previous game in the series, Borderlands 3, was also recently a free PlayStation Plus game in June 2024, alongside Among Us and NHL 24.
Borderlands 4 is set for release sometime in 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
