Good news for Borderlands 3 owners! Your game will be ready to make the jump to the next generation with you. It won’t even cost you anything. Gearbox and 2K confirmed that the Borderlands 3 PS5 and Xbox Series X updates will all be available when the consoles launch, with free upgrades available if you stick with the same family of systems.

Here’s how it will all work. If someone owns the Xbox One version of the game, Smart Delivery will kick in on November 10, 2020. People with an Xbox Series S can continue on with digital copies of the game and all its DLC, while those with an Xbox Series X could keep playing with the digital or physical copy. The game goes for the PS4 versions too on November 12, 2020, with the Borderlands 3 PS5 physical copies needing a model with a disc drive to be played. All save files from the current generation’s systems will work with the next gen models. These versions of the game will support 4K and 60fps.

There’s also a new co-op update coming to every version of Borderlands 3. Starting on November 10, 2020 for the Xbox One and November 12, 2020 for the PS4, new split-screen multiplayer options will appear. Currently, you can play split-screen with two people locally. After the update, up to four people can play with couch co-op. PS5 and Xbox Series X players will also have that option.
