In the latest Kickstarter update for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, 505 Games revealed that the game’s stretch goal for a roguelike mode has been scrapped due to complications. Players will be instead getting a Randomizer Mode. Additionally, Kickstarter updates will no longer be monthly, but rather only when there is new info to announce.
The reason why the Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Roguelike Mode has been scrapped is because the code for the game is apparently not compatible with the sort of gameplay that roguelikes have, especially if the castle were to be procedurally generated. However, as the team behind the game don’t want to take away a promised stretch goal feature without adding something back in return, it will be adding a Randomizer Mode that allows each run to give you a different experience.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Randomizer Mode is a new mode that allows players to make changes to their Story Mode experience. This includes enemy item drops, how quest rewards are given, save warp rooms, and key item locations. That said, there are safeguards to ensure that softlocks aren’t possible, especially since using key items to progress is essential to Metroidvanias. The generated seed can be shared with others. A timer will also track your progress and completion time.
Finally, 505 Games reaffirmed the team’s dedication to improving the Nintendo Switch port of the game, even after the performance update the game received.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
