Over the timeframe of the last few months, Blizzard has been dropping hints in Overwatch that the next playable character would be Doomfist and, since then, actor Terry Crews has been campaigning to voice the character. Crews even recently paid a visit to Blizzard’s offices in Irvine, California. However, all expectations Crews would be Doomfist’s voice actor were dashed when the trailer for Doomfist’s official reveal released a few weeks ago.
In a new interview with GameSpot, Blizzard’s senior designer, Michael Chu, explained why they ultimately chose Doomfist’s official voice actor, Sahr Ngaujah, over Terry Crews. Chu said the following:
“We love Terry. Terry’s awesome. He came and visited us. We had a great time. But when we were looking for Doomfist, we were looking for something very specific given his role in the game and everything. When we were early in the audition process, we heard Sahr, who’s the actor who plays Doomfist, and he just blew us away immediately. Once we heard his voice, it was like, ‘Holy crap. That’s Doomfist.’”
Overwatch is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
