Inti Creates introduced more characters for Blaster Master Zero 3. Jennifer and Kane Gardner had previously appeared in the original Japanese release of the first Blaster Master game. Their appearances in this game will add the Metafight story into the Blaster Master Zero canon continuity. [Thanks, 4Gamer!]
Super Planetary War Records Metafight is the original Japanese name of Blaster Master, the franchise’s first-ever title released for NES in 1988. While Jason Frudnick has been featured as the series’ protagonist since the English localization of Blaster Master, the original Metafight actually had another cast of characters.
Kane Gardner was the original protagonist of Metafight. He liberated planet Sophia from the Invem Dark Star Army 10 years ago. He now assumes the position as the Sophia Force Commander, working to defend and restore the planet. Due to an unknown reason, Kane has to fight against Jason while piloting the original Metal Attacker.
Metafight‘s heroine Jennifer Cornet used to work as an engineer for the original Metal Attacker. She has since married Kane, took the Gardner surname, and gave birth to their daughter Eva. She now works as a researcher at the Science Academy of NORA Satellite while raising Eva. Jason will eventually visit Jennifer to ask for her help in analyzing a certain object he picked up during the story.
Inti Creates will release Blaster Master Zero 3 globally for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC on July 29, 2021. The PC demo will be available at Steam Next Fest June 16-22, 2021.
