Octopath Traveler features eight different protagonists for players to mix and match for their party of four in combat. With eight different starting jobs for each character, it only gets more complicated since you can unlock additional secondary jobs in Octopath Traveler and create the best job combinations.

How to Unlock Secondary Jobs in Octopath Traveler

First and foremost, before you can create the best job combinations, you need to unlock this feature. At first, each character only has the ability to use their initial job and nothing else. To unlock a secondary job, you need to visit each of the eight shrines in the world. Just going there alone will unlock them.

Here is where you can find each of the eight jobs to unlock them for secondary uses on other characters:

  • Apothecary:
    • East Saintbridge Traverse
  • Cleric:
    • Western Stillsnow Wilds
  • Dancer:
    • Northern Wellspring Sands
  • Hunter:
    • East Victors Hollow Trail
  • Merchant:
    • Moonstruck Coast
  • Scholar:
    • Western Noblecourt Flats
  • Thief:
    • South Quarrycrest Pass
  • Warrior:
    • Northern Stonegard Pass

Best Secondary Job Combinations in Octopath Traveler

Now that you have unlocked some secondary jobs in Octopath Traveler, you are ready to start making the best job combinations for each character. Now, I do recommend experimenting a bit. It is even worth switching secondary jobs for characters as you change the party around.

In the end, it comes down to your party makeup and which characters you want to use together. With all of that said, though, these are the basic best job combinations I recommend for each of the eight protagonists based on their initial job and making sure to give everyone a unique secondary job:

  • Alfyn: Cleric
  • Cyrus: Dancer
  • H’aanit: Warrior
  • Olberic: Hunter
  • Ophilia: Apothecary (becomes an unstoppable healer)
  • Primrose: Sorcerer
  • Therion: Merchant
  • Tressa: Thief

Octopath Traveler is available right now for Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and PC.
