There are a lot of Pals to catch in Palworld, so it’s not immediately clear which ones are the best. Each Pal comes with their own strengths and weaknesses and is helpful with different skills.

When you first start Palworld, your priority is to build up your base and for this, the best Pals are the ones that are able to jump in and do a bunch of jobs straight away. Luckily, there are a few options depending on what you’re looking for, all available before you get to the Rayne Syndicate Tower.

Lamball is the best Pal for Wool

Cloth will become helpful early on in Palworld. For instance, you need it to make clothes to stop freezing to death at night. The easiest way to solve this problem is to catch a bunch of Lamballs early on, which the game encourages you to do.

Lamballs will drop Wool whenever they’re captured or defeated in the wild, but once you unlock the Ranch at level 5, they can start producing Wool constantly. This Wool can then be crafted into Cloth, which can then be used for Outfits. However, they’re extra helpful because they will also help transport their Wool to chests in your base. They can also help out on craft projects if they’re able to.

Cattiva is the best early Pal for Mining

Cattiva is one of the earliest Pals you’ll encounter, and it proves its usefulness quickly. This cat-like Pal will automatically mine any source of Stone inside your base if they’re put to work and will help transport the resulting materials to any available chests.

Once you have a few plantations set up, Cattiva proves even more useful, as it will happily harvest any available crops and take them straight to storage. This makes it an excellent addition in combination with Lifmunk and Pengullet to keep a steady food storage available for your Pals to keep them in top condition.

Lifmunk is the best early Pal for Lumber and Planting

This green squirrel-shaped creature is useful in multiple ways. They can usually be found hanging around near the Rayne Syndicate Tower, so it’s a trek to find them, but they’re worth catching when you do. Lifmunk provides two skills that are in short supply early on – Lumbering and Planting.

If you have sources of Wood in your base, it will instantly get to work chopping them down. In addition, it will plant any seeds you have stored in any plantation suitable for them. Early on, this is likely to be a Berry Plantation.

Pengullet is the best early Pal for Watering

While Lifmunk is useful for planting seeds, those seeds need watering. There are two Pal options for this in the game’s early areas. While Teaphant is an easy catch, its only skill is Watering. Since this is a contextual job that isn’t always available, it will often wander around your base doing nothing.

Pengullet, the chubby penguin, is a much better option. It also has Watering as a skill, but when there’s nothing to water, it will help transport items to chests. This means it will move between the two tasks as necessary, keeping a steady food supply moving once the seeds are planted.

Foxparks is the best early-game Pal for your party

Foxparks is the little fiery fox that can be found near the Rayne Syndicate Tower. Its main work is Kindling, which makes it useful when cooking food. However, because it can’t do anything else, it’s not a useful Pal to keep in the base permanently. It’s worth calling out of your pocket when you need to cook though, so bear this in mind.

However, if it’s in your party, it is one of the best early-game Pals in Palworld for an unexpected reason. At level 6, you can unlock the recipe for Foxparks’ Harness. This allows you to use your Pal as a flamethrower, making it a deadly ranged weapon early on. It also holds its own as a partner, racking up damage in most fights.

Palworld is available now in Early Access for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
