Best Gifts for TOPHAT in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Like Big Challenges, TOPHAT is a Hello Kitty Island Adventure character you can eventually give gifts to and befriend. It takes a while to unlock the character, yes. Also, once he is available, there’s the challenge of finding things that the new addition to the Sanrio family actually likes. Basically, if you want to get the perfect gifts, you have to wait for that “postgame” part and befriend other characters too.

How to Unlock TOPHAT in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

You’ll see TOPHAT around a lot as you go through the main Hello Kitty Island Adventure quests. A big part of the story involves finding out who the character is, the connection to the island, and restoring lost memories. This all leads up to the “A Challenging Rescue” questline. Once that mission is completed, you unlock TOPHAT as a friend to socialize with on the island.

I only unlocked “A Challenging Rescue” in the game after finishing all of the following quests:

• “Bring Back the Swing”
• “Comic Relief”
• “Enraging Ruins”
• “Fire Up the Volcano”
• “Happy Landings”
• “Meet the Island Beings”
• “Open the Nature Preserve”
• “Parched”
• “Power Up the Gate”
• “Re-Haunt the Spooky Swamp”
• “Reef Revival”
• “Revive the Oasis”

After those quests are done, TOPHAT will always be available on the island. You’ll the character constantly on the beach at the main island between the Resort Plaza and Resort Gate Mailbox fast travel spots. Big Challenges will always be there too, as their icons are joined.

Which Gifts Should TOPHAT Get in Hello Kitty Island Adventure

Here’s where things get tricky. TOPHAT has “expensive” tastes. As an endgame character, many cooking recipes that involve three ingredients will only be one-heart gifts for him. A good example is the Red Bow Apple Pie. It needs a level 15 friendship with Hello Kitty to get the oven station upgrade, an apple, flour, and magma bloom. It’s a three-heart item for Hello Kitty. TOPHAT gets one heart from it.

The only item I’ve found that really works well as a gift for TOPHAT is the Computer. You get this recipe by hitting level 13 friendship with Chococat. You need to go to the workbench on the island, like the one near Chococat, and have one of the glitch items TOPHAT gives you after being given gifts, two of the spark item you can make from the light stones you get from giving Kuromi gifts, and two of the mechanisms you can make from gizmos you get from giving Chococat gifts.
