As you go through Hello Kitty Island Adventure, you’ll eventually unlock Big Challenges as an island resident. However, getting to befriend the character is pretty hard! It’s difficult to find high-value gifts for him! Fortunately, once you finally unlock him, he does like quite a range of one-heart gifts and gives you a recipe for something he’d really like.
How to Unlock Big Challenges in Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Basically, you don’t need to even think about Big Challenges until you complete the quest “A Challenging Rescue.” That doesn’t unlock until you’ve collected all the Power Crystals and completed the Star Fragments main story quests that cause “A Challenging Rescue” to even spawn as an option.
I didn’t see this quest appear until I’d finished all of the following quests in Hello Kitty Island Adventure.
- “Bring Back the Swing”
- “Comic Relief”
- “Enraging Ruins”
- “Fire Up the Volcano”
- “Happy Landings”
- “Meet the Island Beings”
- “Open the Nature Preserve”
- “Parched”
- “Power Up the Gate”
- “Re-Haunt the Spooky Swamp”
- “Reef Revival”
- “Revive the Oasis”
Once you do complete all of those and “A Challenging Rescue,” Big Challenges is usually found with TOPHAT on the beach in Resort Plaza. You can use the Resort Plaza or Resort Gate Mailbox fast travel points to reach him.
Which Gifts Should Big Challenges Get in Hello Kitty Island Adventure
The great news is that Big Challenges loves bugs. So if you always have your net equipped and are catching spare bugs around the island, you can give those to him. Those are all worth only one heart, however, so they aren’t the most valuable gift he can get.
The highest value gift I’ve found for Big Challenges in Hello Kitty Island Adventure is the one he teaches you to make. After you hit level 2 friendship with him, he gives you a recipe for Meditations on Resilience. That is a two-heart value item for him.
You can then use any Crafting Bench on the island to create the book. You need a Blank Book and one Little Challenge to make. The Little Challenge is a friendship material you get from giving gifts to Big Challenges. The Blank Book can be crafted at benches with three Papers, which you can get for giving gifts to Badtz Maru.
