Like in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, a huge chunk of the main story in Tears of the Kingdom revolves around four main dungeons. Unlike in the previous game, though, these dungeons are all unique temples, a bit more similar to dungeons from older The Legend of Zelda games.

Each of the four temples are based around the same general four regions that make up Hyrule’s various races. While you can do any of the four dungeons in the Regional Phenomena main story quest in whatever order you like, here is the best dungeon order for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom that we recommend.

Wind Temple

When it comes to the first temple you should take on, you should head to Rito Village and tackle the Wind Temple. The game points you in the direction of this temple first for a reason, and that is because of how easy it is.

The dungeon itself and the boss at the end are both the easiest of the bunch, helping you out when your equipment and hearts might be limited.

Lightning Temple

Because I am a glutton for punishment and hated the Gerudo Divine Beast in the last game, I tackled the Lightning Temple first. You can definitely do this, but it helps to have some experience under your belt. Thankfully, this one isn’t nearly as frustrating as it was the last time around.

More importantly, though, you’ll want the power from this temple for taking on the next two dungeons.

Fire Temple

The Fire Temple is what you should tackle third when considering the best dungeon order for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In my opinion, this is the second-easiest boss fight of the four, but the dungeon is quite annoying. If you have the Sage of Wind’s power, though, you can cheese some of the Fire Temple exploration. Plus, the Sage of Lightning’s power is very helpful when tackling the boss here.

Water Temple

Finally, the last dungeon I did, and the one I recommend everyone to take on last, is the Water Temple. The actual dungeon itself is quite easy to explore and complete its puzzles. However, the boss is easily the most annoying and hardest of the bunch.

If you have the other Sages on your side, it helps, as they can deal some extra damage to this boss. You’ll want that, too, because this boss is frustrating to hit throughout the lengthy fight.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is available on the Nintendo Switch.
