On November 5, 2020, Sony announced it would only have PlayStation 5s available at online retailers on launch day as part of COVID-19 pandemic precautions. Now, Best Buy updated its own policies for the season. Not only did the announcement confirm Best Buy PS5s will be available, but that this will be the only way to get the Xbox Series X at launch. In addition, Best Buy’s protocols will extend past launch day.

If someone wants to get one of the next-gen consoles through Best Buy starting with their launches in November 2020, they will have to go through the store’s website. If either system is in stock, a person will be able to purchase it and then either have the system sent to their home or made available at a local store. If you go with a local option, you will be able to pick it up either by stopping in store or by going with curbside delivery. (Face masks will be required for customers, and employees will also wear masks.) If you have a pre-order, you will have an appointment time that says exactly when you can come in to collect your system.

Best Buy’s announcement noted this protocol will be in effect throughout 2020. There are no exact dates offered. However, Best Buy PS5 and Xbox Series X sales will be conducted through its site and delivered either via shipping or pickup at a store “throughout the holiday season.”

The Xbox Series X will launch on November 10, 2020. The PlayStation 5 will debut in Australia, Japan, North America, and South Korea on November 12, 2020 and in the rest of the world on November 19, 2020.
