Final Fantasy XIV‘s Endwalker expansion will conclude the saga that began with the game’s reboot back in 2013, which means players will be going places they’ve never seen before. Among them is the moon itself, which has formed a focal point of promotion for FFXIV Endwalker. At the 2021 Final Fantasy XIV Festival livestream event, Producer Naoki Yoshida revealed more looks at the Moon’s Mare Lamentorum zone, as well as the people living there.
Check out a trailer for the FFXIV Endwalker moon zone below:
The video shows development footage of FFXIV Endwalker‘s Mare Lamentorum (“Sea of Lament”) area. Players will be able to walk around and ride their mounts normally, visit ruins and buildings dotting the surface, including what looks like a crashed Allagan vehicle or device. Yoshida mentioned that the reason why the Moon appears to maintain “normal” gravity and a breathable atmosphere will be explained in the story.
The Moon is also home to its own group of indigenous people, one of the “Beast Tribes” encountered throughout the game. The Beast Tribe of the Mare Lamentorum in FFXIV Endwalker are the Loporrits, a race of small, cute bunny people. They appear to be a different species from the Viera, the tall, cute bunny people added in the Shadowbringers expansion. Previous reveals showed off the Arkasodara, another Beast Tribe consisting of the elephant-like Matanga people.
Besides the Moon, FFXIV Endwalker also showed off screenshots from other large zones, like the domed area of Labyrinthos:
