Larian Studios announced a slew of new features for the early access title Baldur’s Gate 3 during their Panel from Hell 2 livestream event. The features will be part of the game’s fourth major patch, which will contain approximately 15,000 changes. Chief among them will be the Baldur’s Gate 3 Druid class. Subsequent patches will be smaller.
The Druid class will utilize around 30 spells and abilities that will allow them to heal, speak with animals, and cast destructive magic. In terms of specific spells, Goodberry, Thorn Whip, and Flaming Sphere were showcased to help give an impression of what players can expect from the new class. Larian Studios also revealed that the Druid will be slightly altered from the version that appears in the Fifth Edition of Dungeons and Dragons.
With this update, Druid will have a choice between the Circle of the Moon and Circle of the Land specializations. The former emphasizes the Druid’s Wild Shape ability, which allows them to transform into cats, giant badgers, giant spiders, and other animals from the planned list of seven beasts. These forms allow the druid to access different skills, like the ability to burrow under doors as the giant badger or climb walls as the giant spider. More forms will be added in the future.
The stream ended with live gameplay of new content. The fourth update for Baldur’s Gate 3 will also bring quality-of-life changes to the game, enhanced cutscenes, more story, additions to the “Speak with Dead” spell, and a “loaded dice” option that will grant the player the ability to influence rolls. Additionally, stability for the multiplayer mode will be improved.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available in early access for both Google Stadia and PCs. Cross-play multiplayer between the two platforms will be implemented at a later date.
