Inti Creates has announced that Azure Striker Gunvolt 3, the latest game in the 2D side-scrolling action series. Announced during the company’s portion of the BitSummit Gaiden livestream, the game will add a new playable character, a young woman named Kirin, who wields a sword.
Though no release date was given for the game, a trailer was on hand with clips of gameplay, music, and art:
From what was shown, it appears as if Kirin can throw talismans to lock down enemies, as well as deflect incoming projectiles with her sword. She also appears able to mark multiple enemies at a time for the game’s signature electrical arc attacks. Gunvolt is also present in the Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 trailer, sporting a new look.
The announcement was also accompanied by messages from Inti Creates, including from Level-5 comcept CCO Keiji Inafune. Inafune will be returning as Action Supervisor for Azure Striker Gunvolt 3. In his message, Inafune, clarified that he would be helping to shape the gameplay alongside Inti Creates and Director Yoshihisa Tsuda. He assured viewers that how Kirin’s “sword-fighting” action style would interact with Gunvolts, and that the interplay would be a “major highlight” of the game.
Inti Creates President Takuya Aizu was also present to assure fans that more information would be forthcoming, though it’s still in development.

Kirin is a Septimal shrine maiden whose ability is to seal others’ abilities. She attacks with a combination of talismans and a sword crafted from a pewter staff.
Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is headed for an eventual Switch release. The previous games, Azure Striker Gunvolt and Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 are available on Nintendo 3DS, Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC.
