At E3 2017, we learned that ARK: Survival Evolved is finally leaving Steam’s Early Access program this summer. The game will make its official debut on August 8, 2017. Even after the launch, Studio Wildcard’s Steam announcement notes that additional updates will be released for the game.
For those that have not played ARK: Survival Evolved, this is an open-world survival game. It begins with players finding themselves on ARK, a dangerous island filled with all manner of creatures, including dinosaurs and ones you would normally only see in fables. It is up to players to create shelters, grow crops, craft items, either alone or with other players, to survive. Also, if people are patient and strong enough, it is possible to tame these wild creatures on the island and use them as you see fit.
In addition to the release date announcement, some other important ARK: Survival Evolved news has been doled out. To start, griffins are being added to the game. If you are able to tame them, you will have access to a new flying mount.
The first ARK Sponsored Mods Program, which allows people’s created mods to be fully integrated into the game as free official expansions, has been announced and released. David Miller, Matt Janz, and Jackson Lawrence’s Ragnarok is available on Steam now and will come to consoles in July 2017. It is a 144 sq. km. map with caves, various resourcces, new biomes, more dungeons, an active volcano, hot springs that can help or hurt, variations on existing animals, an original animal, and eventually a desert biome.
ARK: Survival Evolved first appeared on Steam Early Access on June 2, 2015. Its full version will launch on August 8, 2017 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
