Animation Comprises 27.8% of Japan’s Video Market So Far In 2010

Marketing survey outfit, Oricon, have announced the results of yet another survey, this time pertaining to Japan’s home video market during the first half of 2010.

 

According to Anime News Network’s translation, Oricon’s research indicates that the Japanese home video market increased by 111% over the same period in 2009. Breaking this down further, the DVD market saw an increase of 101.7% while Blu-ray sales increased by a whopping 216.7%.

 

In terms of revenue, animation comprised 27.8% of the home video market. While the anime DVD market revenue dropped to 91.3% of the revenue in 2009, Blu-ray revenue more than made up for it with a 218.9% increase. Furthermore, animation comprised 61.3% of total Japanese Blu-ray sales.

 

For those curious, Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance was the top Blu-ray seller during this period with 411,000 units sold.
