The Nintendo 3DS sold nearly 225,000 units during the month of June in the U.S., and was the best-selling videogame system for the month. Sales of the device were spurred on by the release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf and other existing 3DS games.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf sold over 505,000 copies between retail and digital, Nintendo of America reported this afternoon. Over 20% of these sales were digital sales via the Nintendo eShop, which is the second-highest retail-to-digital ratio on 3DS, only behind Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Meanwhile, another recent release, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, sold more than 108,000 copies in its second month, while Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon sold another 115,000 copies in its fourth month. Sales of Luigi’s Mansion are now at 750,000 copies in the U.S. alone.

Nintendo of America also add that their internal trackers indicate Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s strong sales will continue into July. It should be interesting to see how the game sold in its second month in their next sales report.
