A recent financial report from Nintendo revealed the cumulative worldwide sales for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The title has official sold 35.9 million units worldwide as of March 31, 2021. Comparatively, while Ring Fit Adventure and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe were successful titles, their sales pale in comparison to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold a total of 10.62 million units, while Ring Fit Adventure sold roughly 7.38 million units during the fiscal year. These numbers are based on total sales worldwide.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a certified hit at launch, with sales hitting 11.77 million units worldwide within its first eleven days of release. The numbers only continued to climb from there, now culminating in the 35.9 million units sold within the fiscal year. A sales report from Famitsu in January 2021 revealed that Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the Nintendo Switch were the top sellers in theĀ Japanese market.

Since its release, Animal Crossing: New Horizons has seen numerous updates. This includes the additional of seasonal events, which has added features such as pumpkin farming into the game. Additionally, each subsequent update adds new furniture items into the game.
