While Animal Crossing: New Horizons is full and rich game, there are returning characters and elements missing. For example, Brewster isn’t around with his cafe and Blathers’ Museum doesn’t have an art sections, Redd isn’t selling his paintings, gyroids are gone, Gracie Grace doesn’t come to islands, and Sow Joan has been replaced by Daisy Mae. However, Ninji, who is known for known Animal Crossing New Horizons datamine details, has found hints about some of these things and other potential new features in the game’s code.
Ninji posted some Animal Crossing: New Horizons datamine findings on Twitter on April 19, 2020. While none of these items are guaranteeded additions and are, rather, mentions of things in the potential code that could hint at future developments, it is interesting to note the mention of so many staples that might possibly return.

Some of the biggest potential updates in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons datamine have to do with museum-related characters and things. Hints at new buildings, a museum cafe and shop, appeared, and there’s a suggestion that another museum upgrade could add a wing for art exhibits. Brewster’s cafe originally began as a part of the museum, before becoming its own building, and characters in this installment have referenced Brewster in conversations before.
Redd, the fox that sells paintings and statues that have a chance of being forgeries, is mentioned in the game code. Ninji noted that it seemed like Redd could visit, particularly at the small back each island has at the back, to peddle his wares.
Some of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons datamine details brought up things like vegetation, farming, fishing, and cooking. In Animal Crossing: New Leaf, people could get bushes and plant them as decorations. The list Ninji found in game referenced these and changed between updates. Past games allowed players to plant azalea, hibiscus, holly, hydrangea, and sweet olive bushes. Their datamine information also mentioned camellia and osmanthus. It also brought up the potential for farming, more fishing, and cooking, as the datamine information mentioned carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes, sugar cane, and wheat. It also mentioned diving, a new type of fishing, and seafood.
The Ninji Animal Crossing: New Horizons datamine thread ended with a screenshot looking at a list of items. This image mentioned two elements that were recurring: art and dishes. While this doesn’t confirm or deny anything, it could again be referencing Redd and cooking.
That’s about all I’ve found so far, except for one more thing:
There’s a list of types for items where every type is used in the game, except for “Art” and “Dishes”.
