Where to find Three Musty Fears flag locations in Super Mario RPG

After arriving in Monstro Town in Super Mario RPG, you can discover the Three Musty Fears side quest by entering the door to the right of the Inn. Inside the empty room is a singular bed. Interact with the mushroom in the right-hand corner of the room, and Mario will go to sleep.

A cutscene will then trigger, and Greaper, Dry Bones, and Boo will reveal that they have hidden three invisible flags throughout the world. The Three Musty Fears flags are in Mario’s Pad, Rose Town, and Yo’ster Isle in Super Mario RPG. Below, I’ll break down the exact locations of each flag.

Dry Bones flag location in Super Mario RPG

For the Dry Bones’ riddle, the character states, “I’m hooooome! My flag’s under a green bed.” The Dry Bones flag location is Mario’s Pad in Super Mario RPG. You will need to travel back to where the story began.

Thankfully, you can do this fairly instantly by pausing your game and going to the map menu. From here, select the Mushroom Kingdom Region and then choose the Mario’s Pad fast travel point.

After entering Mario’s Pad, Dry Bones Flag can be found directly under the plumber’s green bed. To find the hidden item, walk up to the foot of the bed and press the ‘A’ button on your controller to interact with it.

Greaper flag location in Super Mario RPG

For Greaper’s riddle, the character teases, “I’m back! I hid my flag…behind a wooden flower.” The Greaper flag location is Rose Town in Super Mario RPG. Like Mario’s Pad, you can quickly warp to the mid-game location using your map menu.

The Greaper flag can be found directly behind the welcome sign at the entrance of Rose Town in Super Mario RPG. Simply head south of the Inn and then walk behind the wooden sign next to the building. Once behind the flower, press the ‘A’ button on your controller to find the flag.

Boo flag location in Super Mario RPG

Finally, Boo’s riddle reveals, “I’m back! You’ll never guess my spot! It’s between “O” and “A.” The Boo flag location is Yo’ster Isle in Super Mario RPG. If you haven’t unlocked the level yet, it can be accessed through the Pipe Vault level next to Rose Town and the Forest Maze.

The Boo flag can be found next to the Goal Sign on Yo’ster Isle in Super Mario RPG. Once you’ve arrived at the Yoshi race track, have Mario stand between the O and A on GOAL. If you are standing in the right spot, you can now press the ‘A’ button on your controller to find the hidden flag.

Finding the Three Musty Fears flags rewards you with the Ghost Medal in Super Mario RPG. Head back to Monstro Town and sleep in the bed again to summon Dry Bones, Greaper, and Boo one final time. After a quick cutscene, you will hear a jingle sound, and the quest will be over.

After the Three Musty Fears leave, the Ghost Medal will automatically be equipped on Mario. The armor piece doubles defense during battle, making it one of the best items in the game.
