Like any game with hype like Star Ocean: The Second Story R, there will be some digital pre-order incentives. Here’s how to snag all the pre-order and early purchase bonuses for Star Ocean: The Second Story R.

Like most JRPGs, the early purchase bonuses are in the form of equipment and healing items. The equipment for Claude and Rena can give you a pretty nice boost in the early game. However, as the story progresses, this gear will become outclassed. A good stock of recovery items, however, is never a bad thing to have around.

Pre-ordering Star Ocean: The Second Story R net’s you the following rewards in-game:

  • Pangalactic Federation Longsword (Claude)
  • Forest Knuckles (Rena)
  • Set of recovery items (Mixed Berries x20 to heal allies, Resurrection Potion x20 to revive fallen allies)
  • Sunrise Ring

The recovery items and Sunrise Ring are “early purchase” bonuses available players who purchase the game before November 17, 2023. However, it is still a good idea to pre-order Star Ocean: The Second Story R given the other bonuses. Still, it’s nice to have a couple items for early adopters even if perhaps they couldn’t pre-order.

These bonuses seem to be available on all digital store fronts and through Square-Enix’s own store. Check with your retailer of choice to ensure they are including the pre-order bonus, though all major retailers should. Target and the Square-Enix store list the pre-order bonuses in their item descriptions.

Square-Enix is also offering a bonus Prism Badge item for pre-orders of the physical edition. It’s unclear if this is an exclusive item or simply an early unlock.

You can pre-order Star Ocean: The Second Story R now. The release date is November 2, 2023, and a demo is available. It will come to the Switch, PS4, PS5, and PC.
