Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle Answers in the Mountain Shrine

Upon reaching the Mountain Shrine in Dragon’s Dogma 2, players will receive the “A Game of Wits” quest after speaking to the Sphinx for the first time. To complete the quest, players must approach the podium and answer five riddle puzzles from the goddess. However, you only have one shot to get each question right. If you get a single riddle wrong, Sphinx will fly off. Don’t worry, though. We’ve got you covered, as we’ve already discovered the solution to each question!

Below are the correct Mountain Shrine Sphinx riddle answers:

  • Riddle of Eyes: “Venture through yonder door, and retrieve that which is of greatest value.”
    • Answer: Sealing Phial – (found in the chest above the ruin entrance door.)
    • Reward: Wakestone.
  • Riddle of Madness: “So bring forth your most beloved to me, that I might gauge the depth of your insanity.”
    • Answer: Your Pawns – (carry your main Pawn over to the podium and submit them to the Sphinx.)
    • Reward: Portcrystal.
  • Riddle of Widsom: “So bring to me my “Parent” that I might better learn.”
    • Answer: Hire “Sphinx Parent” Pawn at Riftstone – (can be found at Riftstone of Fellowship northeast of Rest Town.)
    • Reward: 1,200 RC.
  • Riddle of Conviction: “So grant to me what you most prize, and thence elude your ponderous demise.”
    • Answer: Give Sphinx “Golden Trove Beetle” – (the golden bug can be found on trees throughout the game’s map, and increases your carrying capacity when consuming them.)
    • Reward: Golden Trove Beetle.
  • Riddle of Rumination: “You know the Seeker’s Tokens, I trust? Yet where was it that you found your first?”
    • Answer: Give Sphinx “Finder’s Token” item – (return to the place where you found your first Seeker’s Token in the game. A Finder’s Token item will now be there.)
    • Reward: 3 Ferrystones.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Eyes solution

The Sphinx Riddle of Eyes in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the easiest puzzle to solve at the Mountain Shrine. After talking to the Goddess, walk to the ruins a few feet from her. You may need to slay a group of enemies before entering the stone door.

As soon as you enter the ruins, immediately turn around to find a chest hidden above the entrance door. You can reach the chest by taking the stairs to the side. Open the chest to obtain the Sealing Phial item, the solution to the Sphinx Riddle of Eyes question.

Return to Sphinx and agree to hand her the Sealing Phial. Your inventory menu will then pop up, and you can select the item to deliver to her. After giving her the Sealing Phial, Sphinx will confirm that this is the solution to her riddle and reward you with a Wakestone.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Madness solution

The solution to the Sphinx Riddle of Madness in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is actually kind of cute, as the answer is your Pawns. Yep, you read that right. To complete this puzzle, all you have to do is bring your Main Pawn to Sphinx. I found the best way to do this is to just walk up to your Main Pawn and press “R2” (PlayStation) or “RT” (Xbox) to lift them up. Then, carry them over to the podium and set your Pawn down.

With your Pawn on the podium, talk to Sphinx and click “Yes.” You will now present your Pawn as someone “you love” to solve this puzzle. You can even bring all of your Pawns to the podium if you want, giving you a pretty amusing bonus dialogue from the Goddess. You are rewarded with a highly-coveted Portcrystal for this puzzle, which is a pretty big deal.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Wisdom solution

The Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Wisdom puzzle is a bit of a pain to complete compared to the others, as you have to travel to obtain the “Sphinx Parent” Pawn. Thankfully, you don’t have to go too far. To complete the Riddle of Wisdom, head to the Riftstone of Fellowship northeast of Rest Town. I have provided a map below that shows the exact location of the “Sphinx Parent” in Dragon’s Dogma 2:

Walk up to the Rifstone of Fellowship and interact with it to enter. Once inside the Riftstone, look for a Pawn with the name “Sphinx Parent.” If you don’t see this person, you may have to travel to Rest Town or Vernworth and sleep at an Inn. Return a few days later until you can find the required character. When you see them, hire the “Sphinx Parent” Pawn and take them back to the Sphinx in the Mountain Shrine.

Like the previous puzzle, lift the “Sphinx Parent” Pawn and carry the character over to the podium. Once there, speak to Sphinx and select “Answer” to present the parent to the Goddess. She will confirm this is the parent she was looking for, and you will be rewarded with 1,200 RC.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Conviction solution

The Sphinx Riddle of Conviction puzzle is the easiest question to solve in this quest if you already have a Golden Trove Beetle in your inventory. If you don’t, you must travel in the overworld and look for one. At this point in the story should know what the beetle is. But if you don’t, the golden insect can be found on trees, and consuming it is how you increase your character’s carry capacity in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Next, return to the Sphinx and hand her a Golden Trove Beetle from your inventory. Before you panic, she gives you the insect back. In fact, this puzzle is a bit lame as this is literally your reward. Instead of giving you a rare item, the Sphinx returns the golden insect she borrowed. I mean, I guess it’s better than nothing.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Sphinx Riddle of Rumination solution

I’m not going to lie: the Sphinx Riddle of Rumination is one of the most difficult puzzles in Dragon’s Dogma 2. To solve it, you must remember the first place you ever found a Seeker’s Token in the game. Did you save a screenshot of the exact moment you found a Seeker’s Token over 30 hours ago?

Unfortunately, the game expects you to remember this. In my save file, the first Seeker’s Token I ever found was near Melve, back in the game’s opening area. I found it north of Melve in a bird’s nest. Once you find the correct place in your game, the Sphinx will put a “Finder’s Token” there, which you must pick up.

Now that you have the Finder’s Token in hand, travel back to the Mountain Shrine and give it to the Sphinx. If you cannot find your first Seeker’s Token, you can get this Riddle wrong – as long as it’s the last riddle you have left. Because after you answer incorrectly, Sphinx will fly off to a new location. The only reward you are missing out on is three Ferrystones. While that sucks, it’s not the end of the world. But you can only miss ONE riddle in this quest, so only do this as a last resort.

After you complete all five Sphinx Riddles, she will take off and fly to a new area. You will have to follow her to her “new abode” if you want to complete the “A Game of Wits” quests. The second location Sphinx can be found in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is in the Frontier Ruins north of Rest Town.

Where to find Mountain Shrine Sphinx in Dragon’s Dogma 2 (Sphinx location 1)

In Dragon’s Dogma 2, you can encounter Sphinx at the Mountain Shrine north of the Ancient Battlegrounds. The quickest way to reach the goddess is to travel to Rest Town using the east Oxcart station in Vernworth. Once at Rest Town, head north to the Ancient Battlegrounds and travel through the broken castle.
