Booting up Core Keeper means starting out with a brand new survival crafting world. There are a lot of options available for this game, especially with its 1.0 release, so it can be a bit overwhelming. Here’s what you need to know about the Core Keeper difficulty options and which one to choose.

All Core Keeper Difficulty Settings

There are four different options available when it comes to picking the difficulty for your world. Here are all four of the options that are available when launching a new world in 1.0:

  • Creative
  • Casual
  • Standard
  • Hard

You pick which game mode you want to play when you first create your world. It is worth noting that you are unable to change your difficulty option, at least at this time, after you pick it. So, you want to really make sure that is the difficulty option you want. I even recommend testing out a setting and see if it is too hard or easy before you commit to it, if you are on the fence.

How Each Difficulty Option Works

When it comes to these difficulty options in Core Keeper, they each work a bit differently from one another. Casual is pretty much the “easy mode” for this game, having monsters but more relaxed and chill. Standard, on the other hand, is the balanced mode. This is the one I recommend for players just starting out.

Hard difficulty is the toughest version of the game we have currently. The monsters are extremely powerful, but you get excellent rewards from them in exchange. Finally, Creative mode is exactly what it sounds like: you don’t have to worry about monsters and have unlimited resources and capabilities. This is there if you really want to let your creative juices flow.

For most players starting out, I suggest Standard or Casual, depending on your confidence level. I only suggest Hard for seasoned players or multiplayer groups.

Core Keeper 1.0 is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It will also release for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on September 17, 2024.
