How do I play Critters in My Time at Sandrock?

Critters is a card game for two people in My Time at Sandrock. You can play in up to three rounds of per character each day. Additionally, playing it is a great way to form a relationship with a townsperson, as it boosts relationship values.

Both players start the game with a hand of four cards. The gameplay unfolds across four rounds, with each player participating by playing a card, then drawing a new one. The objective is to claim a victory in each round to earn one point.

You play Critters in My Time at Sandrock using only four card types. In order for a card to “win,” it has to beat the specific card it’s up against in that round. The cards work almost like a modified rock-paper-scissors, following this pattern:

  • Wolf beats Cat.
  • Cat beats Mouse.
  • Mouse beats Elephant.
  • Elephant beats Wolf and Cat.

The player who accumulates the most points across four rounds wins. In case of a tie, the game concludes in a draw.

To improve your chances of success, follow these strategies:

  1. Always play an Elephant card if you have one.
    • The Elephant beats two cards, therefore playing it when you have it increases your odds of a win.
  2. If you don’t have an Elephant, opt for a Wolf or Mouse card.
    • In the absence of an Elephant, these cards are your next best choices. Mouse is slightly a better play if you have one.
  3. Never play a cat card if you don’t have to.
    • Cats are the weakest card, losing to both Elephant and Wolf. Unless you only have cats in your hand, don’t play one.

This strategy will get you more consistent Critters wins in My Time at Sandrock. A win grants the player five relationship points with their opponent, while a draw will earn three relationship points. However, even in defeat you walk away with one point.

Earning relationship points through Critters can be faster than presenting gifts to characters, especially if you secure at least one victory.
