What is the Alan Wake 2 Bolt Cutters Location?

Alan Wake 2 has many doors that must be opened with bolt cutters. However, despite how many of these locked doors appear early in the story, players don’t actually get access to the tool until much later in the game.

Where to find Bolt Cutters location in Alan Wake 2

To find the Bolt Cutters in Alan Wake 2, you must play through the Return portion of the game until you reach Chapter 5, Old Gods. During this chapter, you’ll be investigating the Valhalla Nursing Home. During this you’ll need to get information from Odin and Tor of the Old Gods of Asgard. This task is interrupted by the Dark Presence, which leads Tor to become trapped in this area’s Overlap.

Once Saga enters the Overlap, you will find yourself in the usual loop of rooms that change slightly with each repetition. After activating a generator and entering the second loop, follow the path along until you go up a set of stairs. You should find yourself in a wrecked room with a locked tool cabinet. This is where you will retrieve the Bolt Cutters.

How to unlock the Tool Cabinet and get the Bolt Cutters in Alan Wake 2

To find the key to access the Bolt Cutters, you’ll need to play around with some light switches to alter the environment. Activate the light switch next to the cabinet, and the wreckage behind you will disappear. This creates an open door into a new room. Search the desks and filing cabinets for supplies, then search the wall opposite the door for a second light switch.

Activate this, and the room layout will change. Search the new desks and filing cabinets for more supplies and the Tool Cabinet Key. Leave this room the way you came in and turn off the original light switch to cause the Tool Cabinet to reappear. With the key, you can now open this and retrieve the Bolt Cutters. You’ll get to use these Bolt Cutters immediately. Reactivate the light switch and head back into the wrecked office.

Deactivate the light switch in here, if you haven’t already, and turn right to see a gate that needs the Bolt Cutters to open. Just be careful before you get to it, as a fight awaits you. Once you’re back out of the Overlap after defeating this chapter’s boss fight, you can wander around Bright Falls, finding all those gates you couldn’t open before!
