At a certain point in the Starfield Freestar Collective Rangers faction storyline, you’ll get a host of quests, including the “On the Run” mission. This particular side quest introduces players to a fascinating location known as the Red Mile. This is like a minigame of sorts in the galaxy where you survive for loads of credits. Here’s how to complete this side quest.
How to Complete Starfield “On the Run”
Note: Full spoilers ahead for this Rangers quest.
Marshal Daniel Blake will give you a set of side quests you can do in any order you like, where you get to know the other Freestar Collective Rangers in Starfield. One such quest is this “On the Run” mission, which introduces you to the sheriff in charge of the Red Mile.
Here’s what you need to do to complete this quest, including your first run of the Red Mile:
- Start by heading to the Porrima System in the galaxy map and then select the planet of Porrima III. From here, land at the Red Mile marker.
- Head inside the Red Mile and find the Ranger Autumn MacMillan at the bar, who will be a bit hostile at first.
- Follow Autumn to the booth and sit down.
- Talk with Autumn and her sister to learn more about your target, Marco.
- After your conversation finishes, speak with Mei, the leader of the Red Mile.
- In order for Mei to help you out, you must complete the Red Mile. Wait for your introduction.
- After Mei introduces you, head to the door to follow the path to enter the Red Mile.
- Either pick to fight through all of the alien creatures or just run right past them.
- No matter your method, aim for the beacon at the end of the snowy arena.
- After you activate the beacon, it is now time to run all the way back from where you came from.
- Speak with Mei, then with Autumn, and then Mei again.
- Head to the Cheyenne System, then the moon of Codos, and the Fortuna landing point there.
- Speak with Marco and either kill him or make a deal to leave him alone to get the encrypted slate.
- Take the slate to Alex at the Rangers base in Akila City to complete the mission.
In the end, the major choice here is whether to keep Marco alive or not. I highly recommend keeping Marco alive, as it saves time, and there are no real consequences for either choice. The only benefit of killing him is to get all of his mid-level items and weapons, but you will have to face down a ton of guards and turrets this way.
Starfield is available for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
