Poliwhirl is one of the many returning Pokemon in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Teal Mask DLC. If you’re looking for a solid Water-type Pokemon or just to fill out the Kitakami Pokedex, you’ll need to deal with the two possible final evolutions: Poliwrath and Politoed.

You can catch a Poliwhirl (or Poliwag) in the river and lakes all throughout Kitakami. They are quite common, so I recommend catching two so you can get both branched evolutions.

Once you have a Poliwhirl in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet ready to evolve into the Generation 2 Water-type Politoed, all you need to do is find the King’s Rock evolutionary item. I found some of these by traveling around Kitakami and picking up the random glowing Pokeball items on the ground.

However, you can also travel back to Paldea and buy one of these from the Delibird Presents store in Mesagoza for 10,000. Once you have it, you’ll need to trade the Poliwhirl while holding the King’s Rock item. So, be very careful with who you trade with for this item so you don’t lose your Politoed.

On the other hand, your other option is to evolve Poliwhirl into the Water and Fighting-type Poliwrath. For this one, you also need an evolutionary item, and this time around, it is the Water Stone. Fortunately, you can get these for free by randomly picking up the items on the ground.

Or, you can head to the same store as the King’s Rock, Delibird Presents, and buy one there. Fortunately with Poliwrath, you don’t have to trade it to get this evolution, so you won’t have to worry about a potential scammer.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Teal Mask DLC is available for Nintendo Switch. The Indigo Disk will release in Winter 2023.
