Starfield has a unique way of handling its weapon tiers, opting for some fascinating names. Instead of the usual common, uncommon, and the like, it has its own set of titles for the tiers that exist in the game, in addition to its rarities. This can make it confusing for players looking for rarer ones like legendary items, which don’t make it clear in the names.
All Starfield Weapon Tiers Listed and How to Get Them
There are five Starfield weapon tiers in total. These are the ones you’ll find in the game at this time, listed from most common to the rarest tier, with their name equivalents in other games:
- Base (Normal)
- Calibrated (Uncommon)
- Refined (Rare)
- Advanced (Very Rare)
- Superior (Legendary)
These tiers determine the stats for the weapon. You usually find the rarer tiers more often if your level is higher in the game, but this isn’t always the case. For instance, if you are level 40 or higher, you are more likely to see advanced or superior weapons, but you’ll still see base ones occasionally.
In addition to all of that, you also have four weapon colors. These affect the various bonuses and traits that a weapon has. The rarer ones also get named specific titles, rather than the generic gun title.
Here are the four colors you’ll find for weapons in this game:
- Common (white/gray)
- Rare (blue)
- Epic (purple)
- Legendary (gold)
Look for the color border of the weapon’s name to know what the rarity is, since the game doesn’t spell it out for you like in the case of tiers. The more advanced the color, the more bonuses you’ll get with the weapon.
For instance, common weapons with no colored border or rarity receive no weapon modifiers. Rare have one, epic guns have two, and legendary weapons have three.
These mix-and-match with the tiers so it is possible to have a legendary calibrated weapon, for instance, or a common superior weapon and so on. It is quite hard to get the more colorful rarities like legendary but you usually find them as drops from special enemies, bosses, and loot chests.
Starfield is available for the Xbox Series X/S and PC.
