The in-game Valisthean language and writing system in Final Fantasy XVI isn’t English or Japanese, and is instead an entirely original alphabet created for the game. People might notice this as they go through the adventure. However, now it might be easier to know officially what is said. This is because Square Enix released an official translation of the alphabet and numbers in FFXVI Ultimania. [Thanks, Audrey Lamsam!]

Here’s the official tweet from Aitai Kuji owner Audrey Lamsam that showed the translation of the Final Fantasy XVI alphabet and numbers translated.

I’m pretty sure many people figured this out already, but the Ultimania book has the official Valisthean alphabet transcribed into the English alphabet and numbering system too.

It isn’t unusual for Final Fantasy games to feature an original alphabet to go with their in-game worlds. Final Fantasy XII uses Ivalician. You could see the Al Bhed, Spiran, and Yevon alphabets in Final Fantasy X and pick up Al Bhed Primers as you’d go through the game to help you decipher it.
Final Fantasy XVI is available for the PS5, and a PC port is on the way. FFXVI Ultimania is out now in Japan and is ¥2,970 (~$20) at Amazon Japan, ¥3,500 at Aitai Kuji (~$24), and $33.99 at Play-Asia.
