The Defiled Temple puzzle is a key location in Baldur’s Gate 3 as it leads you into the Underdark. However, the route through the temple features a puzzle that must be solved in order to pass. You may be a little confused about what you need to do here, but the solution is simple.
Where is the Defiled Temple in Baldur’s Gate 3?
The Defiled Temple is easy to find. Head to the Goblin Camp in the temple of Selune. If you asked Priestess Gut to go somewhere private to chat, this room is where you can find the entrance. If not, it’s on the west side of the main entrance hall, behind the northern door. Look for a locked door in here, and that’s the way you need to go. Gut has the key to the door so it can be looted from her, or the lock can be picked by a character with Thieves’ Tools.
Behind the door you’ll find Polma, the bodyguard of the High Priestess. Either defeat her or convince her to let you pass by. Descend the stairs and follow the path to find the puzzle.
How Do You Find the Solution to the Defiled Temple Floor Puzzle?
There are two potential ways to find the solution to the Defiled Temple floor puzzle. The first is the Dwarf’s Poem. You can find this by looting from Tracker Klagga, a goblin you’re likely to encounter on your way into the temple. The second way is the Selunite Journal, which can be found in the bedroom in the alcove where you encounter Polma.
The key line in the Dwarf’s Poem is “may the full moon never touch the stars once more” while the line “casting darkness where it belongs at the bottom” is the key part of the Selunite Journal. If you examine the stone discs that make up the puzzle, you will notice four darker circles and the southern disc bathed in moonlight. The hints are advising you to move all the dark circles onto the southern disc. To do this, simply spin the discs until you’re able to get them all where they need to be.
If you’re still confused about how to get the circles in position, here is the order you need to spin the discs. From their starting position, spin east twice, west once, south three times, north once, and finally west three times. It should look like this:
With all the dark circles bathed in moonlight, a hidden door opens, allowing your party passage into the Underdark.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is available now for PC. A PS5 version will be released on September 6, 2023.
