Square Enix announced it will kick off the free Final Fantasy XI Return Home to Vana’diel Campaign for past FFXI players. This is essentially a means of getting to play for free starting on August 18, 2023. In honor of the game turning 21, people can come back until September 4, 2023.
During the same period of time, there will be a Discount Campaign that makes the Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition $9.99, instead of $29.99, and the Seekers of Adoulin expansion $4.99 instead of $9.99. Furthermore, World transfers are also $9 instead of $18.
As usual, there are some restrictions. You can only take part in the free play FFXI Return Home to Vana’diel Campaign if you have a “canceled” character by August 15, 2023. Your active PlayOnline account needs to have become a Square Enix account too. Furthermore, you’ll need the Windows client, especially if you used to play on a console. While it will be the Ultimate Collection Seekers Edition version, you can’t play expansions you don’t own.
Square Enix also noted the following events will be active during the Return Home to Vana’diel campaign:
- August 2023 Login Campaign
- Dog Days of Summer Campaign
- Green Festival
- Sunbreeze Festival
Square Enix often does this for its Final Fantasy MMORPGs. A Free Login Campaign appeared in FFXIV in May 2023.
Final Fantasy XI is available on PCs, and Return Home to Vana’diel free login campaign will be back in FFXI between August 18, 2023 and September 4, 2023.
