Part of Square Enix and Sony’s marketing plan for Final Fantasy XVI involved cats dressed as Eikons for an ad. In the new brief teaser, people can see a pair of two felines wearing some accessories inspired by Ifrit and Phoenix. For example, one has horns and the other wings. They then play around a building based on one seen in Rosaria in the game.
Here’s the Japanese PlayStation ad showing cats dressed as the Final Fantasy XVI Eikons Ifrit and Phoenix as they recreate an early-game battle. This same scene appears in the demo. Some gameplay footage is also interspersed for the segment.

This does differ greatly from another Final Fantasy XVI ad Square Enix shared. The company announced some of the ones appearing in Japan. In addition to a truck driving around with imagery, there’s also a 3D animated billboard with Eikons like Ifrit, Shiva, and Titan on it.
While this is the first time seeing cats dressed as Final Fantasy XVI Eikons, we already saw this happen with dogs. Square Enix held a Paws of Valisthea event in Australia. Part of the draw there was to also see dogs and bring your own to dress them up in Eikon costumes.
Final Fantasy XVI will be available for the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023. A demo is out now as well. There is a six-month exclusivity period.
