Within the first two days of its release, sales for Resident Evil 4 Remake already surpassed 3 million copies. This includes both physical and digital versions, as well as sales from all four of its platforms. Though it obviously has not sold more than its original, it is possibly on its way to surpassing the 2005 release of Resident Evil 4.
Capcom cites the demo and positive online reviews as why Resident Evil 4 Remake has had such success so soon after its launch. Though it has a modernized story and game feel, with new visuals and engine, it still more or less follows the same story. Players will take control of secret agent Leon S. Kennedy on a mission to Spain in order to save the president’s daughter, Ashley Graham.
According to statistics from 2020, these are the total lifetime sales of the original Resident Evil 4 on its various platforms:
- Nintendo GameCube: 1.6 million
- Nintendo Wii: 2 million
- PS2: 2.3 million
- PS4/Xbox One: 1.9 million
- Windows PC: 1.2 million
- Xbox 360/PS3: 1.2 million
This makes for a grand total of 10.2 million units sold. Resident Evil 4 Remake has already sold more copies than the initial GameCube and PS2 releases. Not only are fans already familiar with the legacy of Resident Evil 4, but digital purchases are likely more convenient and precise than going to the store to buy a physical copy.
The Resident Evil 4 remake is readily available on the PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC.
