One of the magical elements of Hogwarts Legacy that players will run into early are Eyeball Chests. These chests can be found scattered throughout the game, and if you can get into them, they will have some nice loot for you. The thing about Eyeball Chests is that it’s not just a nickname. They have a great big eyeball that will see you coming. If you want in, you will need to get sneaky.
How to open Eyeball Chests in Hogwarts Legacy
The first place you are likely to spot an Eyeball Chest is in the halls of Hogwarts as you are on your initial tour. You won’t be able to get into it, or the following one you will likely see under the bridge in Hogsmeade. Truthfully, the only way to get into these chests at all is to continue on through the story until you get to a part of the game where you need to discover a secret in an antechamber at the library.
For this section, you will need to learn a new spell from your friend Sebastian who is helping you sneak into the library. The spell is called Disillusionment and will cause you to blend into your surroundings. It does not offer complete invisibility, so you will still need to be cautious around other characters. The good news is that it will make you impossible to see for the Eyeball Chests, allowing you to sneak up on them.
All you need to do is make sure you are out of sight of the chest, cast Disillusionment, and then sneak toward it. When you get close enough, you will be able to interact with it like any other chest. Any that I have found have contained 500 Gold, a handsome reward for a little bit of sneaking.
Hogwarts Legacy is available on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC via early access, and will be available to everyone on February 10, 2023.
