Telltale Games’ adaptation of the The Walking Dead is ten years old in 2022. In fact, the series is available despite the sudden end of Telltale itself in 2018. Skybound Games, the series’ new owner, has gathered the whole series and more in a new The Walking Dead Humble Bundle on PC. Money spent on purchases can be split between the charities SpecialEffect and Covenant House. SpecialEffect helps people with disabilities enjoy video games (such as by providing specialized controllers). Covenant House helps homeless and trafficked young people.
Like other Humble-managed media bundles, The Walking Dead Humble Bundle comes in multiple price points, determining how much a buyer gets out of the bundle. The pricing remains at “pay what you want” to start, with the bottom tier unlocking the first two seasons of Telltale’s The Walking Dead and the 400 Days DLC chapter. The first season focuses on Lee Everett, a resident of Georgia, who encounters a young girl, Clementine, as the zombie outbreak takes over. The second season focuses on Clementine as she tries to survive alone.
The second tier of the bundle unlocks three more items in addition to the first tier, entitling the buyer to six of the eight items in the bundle. The other three items are further chapters of Telltale’s series: The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, The Walking Dead: The Final Season, and The Walking Dead: Michonne. The Walking Dead: A New Frontier is the third season of the series, with a new focal character, Javier Garcia. Michonne is a miniseries focused on the titular character from the comic series, and shows what she did after she departed from Rick Grimes’ group in issue #126, and why she eventually returned in issue #139. The Final Season puts players back in control of Clementine, giving them the chance to see her long journey through to its end.
Interestingly, buyers of the Walking Dead Humble Bundle can opt to pay for this second tier (which starts at $8.05 USD or higher) and get all the content of the Telltale series. The final tier of the bundle, which unlocks at $11 USD or higher), unlocks two games. The first is a VR-exclusive title, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners. A VR-based survival RPG, Saints & Sinners puts players in control of a survivor in New Orleans. The second is The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series. This game includes all of the Telltale series (including the DLC and Michonne), remastered and collected as a single title. It contains graphical enhancements to the earlier seasons, as well as extras like developer commentary, a sound track, and updated UI. In essence, players without a VR headset who opt for the highest tier will end up buying Telltale’s The Walking Dead series twice: once in their original form, and once as a remaster.
The Walking Dead Humble Bundle is available via Humble’s website until August 17, 2022. The games are sold separately on various platforms. Telltale’s series is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices. Saints & Sinners requires a VR headset, and is available on PC, Oculus Quest, and PlayStation 4 (via PSVR).
