Urusei Yatsura, aka Lum or Those Obnoxious Aliens, is an anime adaptation of the manga series with the same name. It follows the protagonist Ataru and the alien princess Lum, who mistakenly believes Ataru to be her new husband. Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of Inuyasha and Ranma 1/2, originally wrote the story in 1977. Weekly Shonen Sunday later serialized the manga in 1978, and an anime adaptation soon followed in 1981.

The new Blu-ray release will include all 195 episodes of the anime. This release will include Japanese audio with English subtitles. Notably, these subtitles are based on the original AnimEigo subtitle scripts. AnimEigo originally licensed the television series and its various films before its license expired. Discotek Media noted that AnimEigo founder Robert Woodhead helped write custom software for the company to use in translating his proprietary subtitle format.

Other Discotek Media announcements included the following upcoming releases:

  • To Be Hero/Heroine
  • Lupin the 3rd: Farewell Nostradamus
  • City Hunter: Movie and Specials Collection
  • Legend of Dinosaurs and Monster Birds
  • Space Sherriff Gavan
  • Dino Mech Gaiking
  • Machine Robo: Battle Hackers
  • Tales of Symphonia the Animation
  • Project A-Ko 3: Cinderella Rhapsody
  • Sherlock Hound
  • Shaman King (2001)
  • The Princess and the Pilot
  • Symphogear XV

Earlier this year, Takahashi announced that a remake of Urusei Yatsura would debut in 2022. David Production is animating the series. It is expected to begin airing sometime in October 2022.

Discotek Media will release the original Urusei Yatsura TV anime on Blu-ray sometime in 2023. It will come with English subtitles. There is no confirmed release date or price.
