Hyrule Warriors Sales

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Sales Top 4 Million Units

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-based action game Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity passed a major sales milestone. Koei Tecmo announced via the official Age of Calamity Twitter account that the game has shipped over 4 million units since its launch in November 2020. The figure counts digital and physical retail sales worldwide. At least three hundred thousand of those copies sold between March 2021 and January 2022. Koei Tecmo’s April earnings call trumpeted a figure of 3.7 million units sold for the title.

Put into perspective, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity‘s sales put it in the company of some major Switch titles. Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which launched in July 2019 and was co-developed by Koei Tecmo and Intelligent Systems, passed the 3 million unit milestone in November 2020. It also puts it ahead of Fire Emblem Warriors, which sold more than 1 million units. In fact Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has already pulled ahead of all other Warriors (a.k.a. “Musou”) franchise titles, becoming the best-selling single Warriors game ever.

Age of Calamity may have also benefitted from its connection to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Unlike the previous title, Age of Calamity’s story takes place during the Great Calamity, the event that sets the stage for Hyrule in Breath of the Wild.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is available for Nintendo Switch. The game’s latest expansion, Guardian of Remembrance, launched in October 2021.
