Of all the platforms, PC is definitely the hardest to award. After all, it’s full of early access and expansions and older titles holding onto mindshare well beyond their release years. But there are still special games that break through the noise and demand your attention! Here are our PC Game of the Year 2021 finalists.
These awards represent the consensus of the Siliconera staff. For more of the year’s award selections, check out our Game of the Year 2021 archive.
Winner: Unpacking
Unpacking presents a fascinating way to learn about someone’s life without ever seeing them. And making compelling gameplay out of something most of us don’t love doing in real life? That’s truly an accomplishment. It’s intimate. It’s very chill. And there’s really nothing else like it. Congratulations to Unpacking, our PC Game of the Year 2021!
Valheim
Valheim shows the value of an engaging gameplay loop. Is it the best-looking game? Nah. But its tightly-crafted action (and hey, also farming) captures you and doesn’t let go. It’s a gem in the increasingly-crowded survival game genre, and its developers look to be adding more and more to the game for years to come.
Monster Hunter Stories 2
There’s just something so delightful about Monster Hunter Stories 2. There’s a whole multiplayer component and a post-game grind to build the best monsties, but even without all that? It’s just a fun campaign to play through. It’s bright, it’s friendly, and it’s always tempting to grab every last egg.
